Hi There Fellow Hams,

Back in July I received this email from John M6JMS, a ham radio operator from Mablethorpe, England;

Hi John

After a good search on the internet I have found your details and those of your amatuer radio club site in Kelowna.

My wife and I will be visiting Kelowna for the month of September and being a foundation licensed amatuer in the UK (call sign M6JMS) I would be very interested in meeting some fellow radio enthusiasts sometime during my stay.

Due to the constraints of my licence I am not allowed to transmit whilst staying outside the uk, but I can monitor the 2/70 wavelengths with my handheld Yaesu FT60 which I shall bring with me.   I have noticed that your club has a regular net on 2 metres.   My main radio is a Yaesu FT857D which I am at present wading through the handbook and setting things up for HF etc.   Unfortunately due to a protesting neighbour I cannot erect the best and highest antennas in the garden, so at present I have been considering going 'stealth' in some form or other

My details, although slightly out of date, can be found on QRZ.com.

Hope to hear from you soon

Well, he's now in town!!  I spoke to John on the phone today, and this Saturday's coffee and breakfast at the Hunter Court Cafe would be a good time for him before he goes off for some travels in western Canada.  He should be back in time to catch the club meeting on Thursday, September 22nd before heading back to "Old Blighty".
Hope to see you there!

Hi,

Here is a bit of information for the Little White Painting party on Saturday August 6th. To date this is the information I have;

We will hike up via the usual access trail on the back side, I do not recommend hiking the front side “Crawford Trail” as it’s much longer.

I have enclosed a few files to assist the back side group,

1st fileLittle white for painting.plt is an OzyExplorer file with the track from Hwy33 to the com shell

2nd fileLittle white for painting.kml is the same as above but for Google Earth

3rd file;  Little white hike 2010.kml is the hike Mike VE7FI and I did last May with some waypoints;
    1. Parking Is where I had to park because of snow on the road, (this was in May; no snow expected in August)
    2. Intersection, an intersection,
    3. Short Cut, An intersection that one can park or take a shortcut on foot,
    4. Road end, an old log landing where  normal vehicle would stop, limited turn around,
    5. Short Cut, Where the upper end of the short cut,
    6. Usual start, Where Mike VE7MVF usually drive to and we start our hike
    7. Trail Crossing, this is where we noticed a trail crossing in a attempt to find a shorter way down from the Comm. Shell,

Mike VE7FI and I have hiked the back side many times and can offer tips and comments if required.

This coming weekend, is the RAC Canada Day Contest.  In the last few year we have made it a tradition to hold the event at a lake where club members can get together for a bit hamming and fishing.
The contest will be held at Peachland lake near Peachland.  The site is very accessible even for cars and there is plenty of room for campers and RVs.  It starts Thursday night 5:00pm ending Friday July 1st 5:00pm.  This is a Canadian contest and a great way to celebrate the day with our fellow Canadians.

We have previously contested here and there a fish have been caught.  Stay for the day or weekend.  Bring your friends!  Bring your fishing rod!

A BBQ will be available for use.  Check out the link below for directions. The  Little White repeater (146.820) will be monitored.

Good Evening,

We would like to say thanks so very much for your help with the Ski2Sea race yesterday.
We had close to 700 participants; that's a lot of people to keep track of and without communication,
none of this could have happened with any efficiency at all. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
Also, a big thanks to Gord Strachan VE7KFD for putting all of the information together in the first place
- we really only had to follow his direction.

I am sending off the list of t-shirt sizes to Kelly Blair this evening and we will have your t-shirt at the next
regular OCARC meeting on Thursday, April 21.

See you at the meeting!

At our last general meeting we discussed having a tailgate swap meet at the Cedar Creek Community Centre, 5160 Chute Lake Road, Kelowna.

Because of facility availability this event will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 starting at 09:00.
The club has some surplus material that will be sold off, This consists of towers, antennas and stuff.
Members are encouraged to bring their own surplus equipment they have for sale.
It is intended as a tailgate swap meet but we will have use of the hall should the weather not be agreeable.
I will send out several reminders before that date, but mark your calendar now.

Hi all;

Thanks so much for all your help yesterday.  The race organizer said that she hoped we'd be there when she arrived and was pleasantly surprised to hear that everyone was in their place, ready to go.  (she's new, as of last year, and she just doesn't know that 'hams' are always in place, ready to go....but she believes it now!)

Everything went very smoothly, no injuries, all runners in by 11am.  Just so you know, the announcer and the organizers at the awards ceremony all thanked and praised our group a lot!  The info they could relay to the crowd from the announcers booth all came from our operators and they couldn't get it any other way as quickly.

So well done everyone!  Another great community effort and chance to practise what we do best.  I appreciate you coming up and hope to see you again next year.

thanks again

There will be no Flea Market this year.  Last year we ran into too much difficulty selling enough tables to warrant people to come from out of the area to the event.  This will be reviewed again next year and we may have a cycle of every two or three years, as demand indicated.  There was some discussion about a possible "Boot Sale" (tailgate, or trunk, for those of us on this side of the Atlantic hihi)  in place of the Flea Market and it was generally agreed that we will plan something for later this spring.
In the meantime, it will be noted on our website that the Flea Market will not be held this year.
Please spread the word if you know of any hams who might be wondering about our Flea Market this year.  Suggest they watch our website to find future information on the Boot Sale.
