In September 1978, the 146.82 autopatch repeater was installed in Kelowna making us the first club in the southern interior of BC, to have a patch. The frequency was changed to 146.62 in 1987. In 1991 we installed the first UHF repeater in the Okanagan.

Today, the Central Okanagan Region is home to several hundred amateur radio operators of whom over one hundred are members of the O.C.A.R.C. Many of our members are also registered as volunteers with the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP). Our radio amateurs provide communication facilities for municipal, regional and national sporting events and are ready to respond to any emergency.

The most recent emergency event was club involvement in the Okanagan Mountain Fire during the summer of 2003.  We provided communications support for Emergency Social Services during this crisis.
